Fort Lewis College volleyball gets first win with new coach

Skyhawks hit for high percentage in win at Adams State

Fort Lewis College carried over its strong play in the final three sets of last Sunday’s pod in Denver when it returned to the court Thursday night in Alamosa.

This time, it resulted in a 3-0 victory for the Skyhawks volleyball team (1-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) with set wins of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-17 against the host Adams State University Grizzlies (0-1).

It was the first win for new FLC head coach Giedre Tarnauskaite and the new-look Skyhawks.

“The team kept talking this week about staying competitive and showing our identity on the court. They were hungry for a victory and it showed tonight,” Tarnauskaite said in a news release. “I thought we had amazing energy.”

After she recorded 14 kills in a four-set loss to No. 19 Colorado School of Mines on Sunday, Alexa Treguboff kept up the pace with 12 kills on Thursday. She hit for a .385 percentage. Treguboff also added two assists, a block and seven digs.

Cameron Callahan was also strong when she got set at the net. She put down 11 kills and hit for an astounding .450 percentage. She also had four blocks and nine digs.

Avynn La Rose came through with seven kills while hitting at .417. Rylee Johnson added five kills and a match-high three aces.

Kamryn Lopez led FLC’s back row with 12 digs and an ace. Makena Ahuna had 10 digs for FLC.

Adams State was led by six kills from Natalie Gallegos. Chasey Blach added five kills.
