The San Juan National Forest Dolores Ranger District is extending the public comment period on the draft environmental analysis for the Rico-West Dolores Roads and Trails Travel Management Project.
The project area is north of Dolores and includes the Bear Creek, Taylor Mesa, Calico National Recreation Trail, Bolam Pass, the Divide Road and Groundhog Point areas.
A 45-day comment period was scheduled to end Monday. The deadline has been extended to July 15, an additional 25 days.
Five alternatives address motor-vehicle use on national forest roads and trails.

Comments may also be submitted in hard-copy format to Dolores Public Lands Office, 29211 Highway 184, Dolores, CO, 81323 or faxed to the office at (970) 882-6841. Comments, including names and addresses, will become part of the public record.

Retired national park superintendent Fred Fagergren will share memories of growing up in and working at various national parks, including Mesa Verde, at 7 p.m. Friday at the Chapin Mesa Museum in Mesa Verde.
Fagergren’s career with the park service spanned 34 years and included working at Rocky Mountain and Bryce Canyon national parks, among many others. Fagergren will also talk about his father’s longtime park service career.
The presentation is part of the 2016 Four Corners Lecture Series, which features presentations about the archaeology, current Native American cultures, history and natural resources.
