The Bayfield Marshal's Office hosted a fundraiser for Maddy Abdella on Feb. 24 that filled Pine River Valley Church.
The turnout and donations were "unbelievably amazing," said Marshal Joe McIntyre. So far, the event has raised $14,875 for the Abdella family.
Maddy is a student at Bayfield Middle School and the daughter of Jeff and Amber Abdella. She has Hodgkin's lymphoma and requires chemotherapy in Denver. One parent takes her to the chemotherapy session while the other stays home to work and take care of their other child. Amber Abdella works in the Bayfield Marshal's Office and Maddy's uncle is a deputy there.
Friday's fundraiser featured spaghetti served up by town staff and other volunteers. Desserts were provided by Pine River Seniors and other community groups.
