A Bayfield man was found guilty Wednesday of burglarizing Pine River Pawn earlier this year in Bayfield.
John Joseph Mulloy Jr., 34, faces up to eight years in prison for burglary. He also was found guilty of theft, possession of burglary tools and violation of bail conditions for missing drug-testing requirements.
The jury trial started Monday in 6th Judicial District Court in Durango and concluded Wednesday. A 12-person jury deliberated about three hours.
Prosecutors said Mulloy teamed up with a New Mexico man to break into the pawn shop to steal a bicycle. The man returned for guns, and Mulloy helped facilitate the crime, said Deputy District Attorney Reid Stewart.
In all, three bikes and five guns were stolen.
Mulloy provided masks, a duffel bag, burglary tools and a location to disassemble the bikes so the parts could be sold in New Mexico, Stewart said during his opening statements.
Mulloy's public defense lawyer, Barrie Newberger King, said Mulloy helped steal bikes, but he didn't return for the guns, and he shouldn't be held responsible for those thefts because his actions didn't meet all of the elements of complicity, including helping plan or commit the crime.
The trial was overseen by District Judge Todd Norvell.
Sentencing is set for Dec. 1. Mulloy remains free on bail.
