Best bets this weekend include the Youth Fishing Derby and San Juan Brewfest.

VFW Post 4031 will host its Youth Fishing Derby from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the post, 1550 Main Ave.

Children ages 5 to 12 can participate, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian age 16 or older for the duration of event. Anglers should bring their own fishing equipment if possible. Experienced anglers are invited to attend to provide guidance and mentorship.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. The derby will take place at the pond east of the fish hatchery. The hatchery will stock the pond before the event.

There will be hot dogs, ice cream and awards after the derby on the VFW lawn.

Ticket holders receive unlimited tastings from up to 30 breweries and a souvenir tasting glass. Two live bands will play, and the festival will take place rain or shine.

Tickets are $45, and there is no VIP pass this year. Designated driver tickets are $30 and holders will receive free mocktails from local bars at the festival. This is a 21-and-older event.

Because of COVID-19 precautions, admittance this year will require either proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result dated no more than two days before event date.
