Southwest Colorado Spine and Musculoskeletal Center recently renamed its practice Animas Spine.

Communication workshop to be offered

The Durango Chamber of Commerce will offer “Did I say that? A Vital Communications Workshop” from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the training room at First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. Ninth St.

The workshop will explore personal workplace-style reflective listening; personal and cultural filters; fogging so people can be “response-able”; hearing and dealing with feedback; and not what, but how to communicate. Reservations are required.

San Juan Untracked under new ownership

San Juan Untracked, formerly San Juan Snowcat Skiing, announces new ownership and operations under the lead of Durango native Dennis Martin.

Martin grew up in the Hermosa valley north of Durango and left to pursue a professional BMX career. He takes the reins from previous owners Bob and Carrie Rule, who started the operation 16 years ago. All guides and snowcat drivers will remain with the new operation.

San Juan Untracked is in the base village at Durango Mountain Resort and provides guided backcountry skiing and snowboarding day trips.

CDOT kiosk available to local businesses

The Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center, the Durango Chamber of Commerce and the Colorado Department of Transportation have erected a kiosk in the chamber office for businesses that want to secure contracts with the Department of Transportation.

Adviser Jay Davis with the Small Business Development Center will provide consultations with interested businesses.

The Internet bidding system Bid Express is accessible, as is The Dodge Network, which helps engineering firms and construction contractors find local bidding opportunities.

Mumbling Marmot announces tutor

Candace Nadon has joined Mumbling Marmot Tutoring as a tutor specializing in English, reading, writing (middle school through college), enrichment, gifted/talented, college applications and test preparation.

Nadon earned a degree in English from Fort Lewis College, an Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of Southern Maine and a doctorate in English with a concentration in creative writing from Georgia State University. She currently is an instructor of creative writing and academic inquiry and writing at FLC, and she also has taught in public and private schools.

Kenn Bates joins Durango Custom Works

Durango Custom Works LLC, a provider of custom interior and exterior solutions for the new construction and remodeling markets in Durango, has added landscape designer and construction administrator Kenn Bates to its staff.

Bates has 14 years of experience as a registered landscape architect in Orlando, Fla. He is a 1999 graduate of Ball State University with a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture. He is a registered landscape architect in Florida and is applying for registration in Colorado.
