No one in La Plata County became a multimillionaire in Wednesday’s record-breaking Powerball drawing, but someone who bought a ticket in Durango is $50,000 richer.
The winner, who purchased the ticket at north City Market, matched 4 out of 5 numbers but did not purchase the PowerPlay option that would have doubled the winnings, said Kelly Tabor, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Lottery.
The store will receive a $2,000 commission for selling the ticket.
Five $100,000 winners, who did purchase the PowerPlay, were all on the Front Range. The state had ten $50,000 winners, including two sold at a King Soopers on Chestnut Place in Denver.
Coloradans spent more than $60 million on Powerball tickets since the jackpot began accruing on Nov. 4. Tabor said $21 million, 36 cents per ticket, will be split between Great Outdoors Colorado, the Conservation Trust Fund and Colorado Parks & Wildlife.
Three winning tickets split the $1.5 billion jackpot, with those tickets purchased in Chino Hills, California; Munford, Tennessee; and Melbourne Beach, Florida.
