College Drive road improvement project near completion

The city of Durango will install signal poles and change the pedestrian flow Wednesday at two intersections on College Drive.

The city of Durango will install signal poles and change the pedestrian flow Wednesday at two intersections on College Drive.

The work schedule includes:

Signal poles will be installed on the north side of the East Second Avenue and College Drive intersection. Lanes will remain open in both directions, and flaggers will direct traffic as work is conducted. The light will be covered until Tuesday and, after Tuesday, will flash yellow for three days until fully active.Crews will remove the “Barnes Dance” crossing, also known as a pedestrian scramble or scramble intersection, at the College Drive and Main Avenue intersection, which allows people to cross diagonally. It will be replaced with a traditional piano-key crossing.College Drive improvements between Main and Fourth avenues are estimated to be complete by May 25. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to exercise caution as work is conducted.

The project is part of the city of Durango Multi-Modal Transportation Plan and 2016 Durango Road Diet Study for College Drive and East Eighth Avenue.
