DHS volleyball swings a big homecoming W

Fruita Monument came into the Durango High School gymnasium undefeated in Southwestern League volleyball play.

The Wildcats left with a 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 17-25, 25-21, 15-13) loss Friday.

The Demons battled back from a 2-1 defecit to win their homecoming match and their third in a row overall.

“We came out here wanting to execute and show our fans who we are,” said DHS senior Gabi Razma, whose team only has played three at home this season.

Razma had 23 digs in the match, while Logan Clark – who had a DHS-high 32 assists – led the team with 25. Jessi Brammer took advantage of Clark’s passes with a team-high 17 kills, and Bella Bernazzani had 12 for DHS (7-7, 4-2 SWL).

The loss snaps Fruita’s (12-3, 7-1 SWL) seven-match win streak.

“Being able to finish, that is something we needed to do,” Razma said. “This game was one we needed to win.”
