Dolores Ranger District closes roads, trail

Dolores Ranger District will close several San Juan National Forest roads to motor vehicles and one trail to public use Dec. 1 through May 1 for wildlife protection: Forest Service Road 504 (Dolores River below McPhee Dam); Forest Service Roads 528, 529D (House Creek area); Forest Service Roads 240, 241 (Black Snag and Ryman Creek area); Forest Service Road 568 (Railroad grade near Mancos); McPhee Overlook Trail (from Dolores to House Creek Campground).

Seasonal closures protect deer and elk habitats during winter and early spring when low temperatures, snow and food scarcity exist. Human disturbance can threaten deer and elk survival, especially for pregnant females.
