Downtown Durango can boast of a new restaurant, El Moro Spirits and Tavern brought to us by the owners of the popular brew pub Steamworks.
Open since July 25, the cavernous space has a long bar and plenty of seating with high ceilings, brick walls and a bustling happy hour. Beer is the thing – a menu the size of a legal pad lists them all, from Coors and Miller to Orval Trappist Ale and Cockeyed Cooper.
But the tavern also sports some cocktail creations like the Tuxedo, with Jackelope gin, lemon juice, grenadine and simple syrup, and wines by both the glass and the bottle (most under $30).
The food is what you would expect – heavy on snacks and small plates intended to be consumed with the adult beverage of your choosing. The beet and apple salad was crunchy and sweet; the pan bagnet of roasted vegetables and melted cheese was filling when accompanied by the scrumptious fries and the chicken sausage was complemented nicely with a tangy tomato salad.
One warning – bring a crowd, it’s a high-energy place with high decibels to match.
