The Fort Lewis College softball team struggled on Saturday against one of the top teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Eleventh-ranked Colorado Christian University cruised to a 10-3 win over the Skyhawks in Game 1 Saturday at Aspen Field, then won 12-1 in Game 2 of the doubleheader.
Colorado Christian (14-1, 6-0 in the RMAC) is in first place in the conference. Fort Lewis fell to 2-13 overall and 0-6 in the RMAC.
Fort Lewis has struggled as of late, dropping 10 straight games after its upset win over fourth-ranked West Texas A&M earlier this month.
The Skyhawks drew first blood in the opening inning of Game 1 when senior second baseman Kayla Stone hit a two-run home run to right-center field.
However, CCU did its damage over the next three innings, scoring 10 combined runs.
The Skyhawks couldn’t score any more runs from there, and Colorado Christian pitcher Emma Duncan improved to 8-0 on the season. Duncan only allowed three hits and struck out three.
Skyhawks junior shortstop Alex Tenorio led the Skyhawks with two hits in Game 1, including an RBI single to left field, and scored a run.
Fort Lewis junior pitcher Amiee Shanks struck out one batter in the first game, but also allowed 13 hits.
Senior outfielder Cara Daugherty scored the Skyhawks’ only run in Game 2.
Fort Lewis plays Colorado Christian again in a Sunday doubleheader, starting at 11 a.m.
