The Fort Lewis Skyhawks again struggled to do damage on the scoreboard, dropping both games (9-3 and 8-0) against 11th-ranked Colorado Christian in Sunday’s softball doubleheader.
The Cougars (16-1, 8-0 in the RMAC) completed a four-game sweep and have now won 10 straight games. The Skyhawks (2-15, 0-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) have lost 12 straight games.
Fort Lewis trailed 7-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning in the first game. The second game concluded via mercy rule when Colorado Christian’s Logan Menzies hit an RBI-single down the right field line, giving the Cougars the eighth and final run of the game in the fourth inning.
Skyhawks second baseman Kayla Stone hit a two-run single up the middle during the morning contest, batting 2 for 3 overall in that game. Fort Lewis first baseman Cara Daugherty hit an RBI single to left-center field in the morning game, batting 1 for 3.
Fort Lewis had just nine hits combined between the two games, struck out a combined seven times and left a combined 11 runners on base in Sunday’s twin bill.
Colorado Christian tallied 19 combined hits in Sunday’s doubleheader. Menzies hit a two-run home run to right field in the first game, and Kayla Middleton hit a two-run shot down the left field line in the second game.
The Skyhawks will travel to Adams State for a four-game series March 2-3.
