Fort Lewis softball swept by Colorado Christian

Skyhawks’ losing streak now 12 games after dropping both games in Sunday’s doubleheader

The Fort Lewis Skyhawks again struggled to do damage on the scoreboard, dropping both games (9-3 and 8-0) against 11th-ranked Colorado Christian in Sunday’s softball doubleheader.

The Cougars (16-1, 8-0 in the RMAC) completed a four-game sweep and have now won 10 straight games. The Skyhawks (2-15, 0-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) have lost 12 straight games.

Fort Lewis trailed 7-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning in the first game. The second game concluded via mercy rule when Colorado Christian’s Logan Menzies hit an RBI-single down the right field line, giving the Cougars the eighth and final run of the game in the fourth inning.

Skyhawks second baseman Kayla Stone hit a two-run single up the middle during the morning contest, batting 2 for 3 overall in that game. Fort Lewis first baseman Cara Daugherty hit an RBI single to left-center field in the morning game, batting 1 for 3.

Fort Lewis had just nine hits combined between the two games, struck out a combined seven times and left a combined 11 runners on base in Sunday’s twin bill.

Colorado Christian tallied 19 combined hits in Sunday’s doubleheader. Menzies hit a two-run home run to right field in the first game, and Kayla Middleton hit a two-run shot down the left field line in the second game.
