Fort Lewis volleyball pulls off big comeback against Western State

After going down two games to none early, the Fort Lewis College volleyball team came together on its home court to pull off a big come back.

The Skyhawks defeated the Western State Mountaineers 3-2 (20-25, 17-25, 25-19, 25-22, 15-8).

Western State (7-7, 3-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) finished better than FLC in nearly every statistical category, but team play by FLC (4-10, 3-3 RMAC) put the Skyhawks over the top.

Matisse Monty led FLC with 14 kills, as Bailey Longacre and Laine Waters each added seven. Kendra Swackenberg’s 37 assists led the Skyhawks, while Gabriella Hickman had two aces. Ally Dell’Amico had a match--high 20 digs for FLC, and Monty added 13. At the net, Laine Waters led FLC with five blocks.

Tori Gaherty had a match-high 15 kills for the Mountaineers. Allison Walker led the match with 44 assists, and Amanda Maestas had 18 digs.

Next up for FLC is a road trip to face Colorado Mines and Colorado Chirstian next Friday and Saturday, respectively. FLC will play its next six matches on the road.
