Going big in Bayfield

Momentum Fitness expanding into $1M, 10,000-square-foot facility

Momentum Fitness has grown from a 1,000-square-foot facility in Bayfield to three locations in Southwest Colorado, with gyms in Pagosa Springs and Mancos.

Now, the Bayfield gym is growing from more than 3,000 square feet to a new 10,000-square-foot facility that owners Kira and Rayburn Gosney are building in the Bayfield Center.

"We have been super blessed and supported by the community," Kira Gosney said this week, surveying the construction that is underway. The $1 million facility is slated to open in May.

The new gym will have showers and locker rooms, a large kids' area, two classrooms for classes, a larger workout area, and an upgraded membership that will include tanning, sauna, and hydromassage, which is sort of a water-based massage bed.

"It's so exciting," Gosney said of the growth of the business. Momentum opened its Pagosa location in 2012, and Mancos in 2016. Both she and her husband grew up in Bayfield and graduated from BHS. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, she returned home and opened the first Momentum location. Funding from Vectra Bank is allowing the expansion to take place, she added.

Other amenities in the new facility will include hot yoga classes, an artificial turf section, and an expanded area for fitness classes.

Momentum Fitness offers 24-hour access to all its members. Gosney said more instructors are needed to offer expanded classes in the new facility. Momentum Fitness can be reached in Bayfield at 884-6077.
