A National Weather Service flash-flood watch will continue through Thursday night after a major rainstorm pounded La Plata County.
Measurements showed 0.41 inches fell near Bayfield on Wednesday. A station near Ignacio got 0.35 inches, while 0.30 inches fell near Durango.
On Wednesday, the agency issued a flash-flood warning to expect flooding near Bayfield, Ignacio and Pagosa Springs. The warning expired at 2 p.m.
The agency said mudslides were possible near steep terrain. The Florida and Los Pinos rivers were at or near their banks.
“Small streams and banks already swollen by heavy rainfall and snow-melt runoff could quickly flood out of banks with additional heavy rainfall,” the Weather Service said.
Mud flowed onto County Road 310, near the New Mexico border. La Plata County dispatched plow crews to clear the road, said Butch Knowlton, director of the La Plata County Office of Emergency Management.
