The town of Ignacio’s recycling schedule will look different for an undetermined amount of time as TDL Recycling plans to eventually move to a new building.

Recycling is usually picked up every Tuesday, but that schedule will temporarily be switched to every two weeks beginning next week. The $10 monthly fee will stay the same, and there will be no extra cost for recycling extra materials, according to the town’s Facebook page.

The decision comes as TDL, which is based in Bayfield but contracts with the town of Ignacio, announced that its current building at 40644 U.S. Highway 160 in Bayfield is being sold and that it must relocate, the page said.

“We are in the process of gathering all material and machinery in order to find a new home,” TDL said in a message posted on the page.

When The Durango Herald reached out to TDL for more information about the relocation and why it affects the recycling schedule, a representative who answered the phone said there wasn’t anyone who could speak on the matter, then hung up.

According to a town of Ignacio representative, the duration of the new biweekly schedule is up in the air. It is unknown whether other recycling services for those who may need it more often than biweekly are available.

Items like empty plastic bottles, steel cans, aluminum foil, phone books and paper bags are allowed to be recycled, but glass, metal, electronics and regular garbage are not allowed, per TDL guidelines.
