Autopsy results for Karen Michelle Reyes, 42, were released Tuesday showing the cause of death was asphyxia and drowning. There was also evidence of hypothermia.
La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith said Reyes’ death will be ruled as accidental.
Reyes’ body was discovered in the Animas River on Feb. 7. She had last been seen the previous evening, when she took her two dogs out for a walk.
There was no significant trauma on the body.
The autopsy report, completed by Dr. Robert A. Kurtzman, a forensic pathologist from the Grand Junction area, showed that Reyes had a blood-alcohol level of 0.133 and had recently used marijuana.
