Durango announces Christmas schedule

The following is the holiday schedule for the city of Durango:

City administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, including offices at City Hall, River City Hall, police station and substation, Durango Transit Center, Parks & Recreation administrative offices and Greenmount Cemetery.

Durango-La Plata County Airport administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. The airport will be operating normally.

The Durango Transit’s evening bus (Route 6 from 6:35 to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday) will discontinue service during the Fort Lewis College winter break beginning Monday and will resume service Jan. 11.

Transit will run limited service Thursday. Three citywide routes will run from 7 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. and the trolley will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and one Opportunity bus will run.

There will be no transit services operating Friday. The transit center will be closed.

There is no on-street parking in the downtown area between 2 and 5 a.m. Vehicles parked on the streets downtown between these hours may be ticketed or towed at the owners’ expense. Any city lot may be used after 5 p.m. for free parking overnight.

The Durango Public Library’s main branch will close at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and will be closed Thursday and Friday. The Fort Lewis Mesa and Sunnyside branches will be closed in conjunction with the Durango School District 9-R school break beginning Monday and will reopen Jan. 4.

The Durango Community Recreation Center will be open from 5:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, and will be closed Friday, reopening for regular hours Dec. 26.

Chapman Hill Ice Rink will be open for public skate from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and will be closed Friday. The rink will reopen for regular hours Dec. 26. For a schedule, visit www.durangogov.org/chapmanhill.

Chapman Ski Hill will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday. The ski hill will be closed Friday.

The Mason Center will be closed for classes and rentals starting Monday and reopen Jan. 4. Classes resume Jan. 4. Preschool open gym (for ages 1 to 5) will be available Tuesdays only (Dec. 22 and 29). Monday, Thursday and Friday preschool open gyms will be closed.

Trash and recycling services will operate normally Thursday. There will be no service Friday. Friday commercial trash and recycling will be picked up Thursday. Friday residential trash will be picked up Thursday. Friday residential recycle will be picked up Dec. 31. The recycling center will be closed Thursday, Friday and Dec. 26. The center will reopen Dec. 28.

Genealogical society to meet Jan. 9

The Southwest Colorado Genealogical Society will meet at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 9 in the Eolus Room of the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

After a brief business meeting, members will share information about their family history research and genealogical projects. The society will conclude the meeting with its winter potluck. The society will provide the main dish, drinks and paperware/utensils. Members are asked to bring a dish.

Veterans committee to serve breakfast

The Durango Elks Lodge Veterans Committee will serve breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. the first and third Sundays of the month at the Durango Elks Lodge, 901 East Second Ave.

Participants should use the lodge’s Ninth Street entrance. The cost is $5 for veterans and $6 for non-veterans.
