Southern Ute Museum to host Christmas sale

A Christmas in November Sale will take place Saturday at the Southern Ute Museum Gift Shop, 503 Ouray Drive in Ignacio.

Discounts of 10 percent will be available on purchases up to $75 and discounts of 20 percent on purchases of more than $75.

Energy assistance program available

The La Plata County Department of Human Services is partnering with Discover Goodwill of Southern & Western Colorado to administer the Low-Income Energy Assistance (LEAP) Program. This federally funded program assists low-income households with utility costs for their main heating source. To qualify, applicants must be responsible for paying heating costs directly to an energy provider, fuel dealer or as part of rent.

Eligibility and benefits are determined by factors such as household income, type of dwelling, family size and fuel type.

Applications are available at the La Plata County Department of Human Services, 1060 East Second Ave., at most fuel vendors, La Plata Electric Association, local libraries and at many community agencies.

Completed applications should be mailed in the provided envelope.

LEAP-eligible households also may qualify for the Crisis Intervention Program, which provides assistance with the repair or replacement of a home’s primary heating source such as a furnace or wood-burning stove.

La Plata Quilters Guild to feature trunk show

The La Plata Quilters Guild will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 495 Florida Road.

A trunk show by guild member Britt Toppenberg will take place. Toppenberg is a wonderful quilter and her applique quilts are spectacular.

Kiwanis Club to meet Thursday

The Kiwanis Club of Durango will welcome Nino Kveraia, a foreign exchange student from the country of Georgia, as its guest speaker at noon Thursday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Fort Farm Stand keeps fresh veggies coming

The Old Fort Farm Stand will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday either inside or just outside the Student Union at Fort Lewis College, depending on the weather.

Candice Wood, producer of dryland pinto beans, will be on hand to discuss her product. The next farm stand will be Dec. 12.

The stand will offer: carrots, beets, peppers, onions, potatoes, collards, pumpkins, winter squash, dryland pinto beans, red cabbage, assortment of fall greens, turnips, rutabaga, parsnips, gluten-free carrot cupcakes, gluten-free pumpkin chocolate-chip cupcakes, carrot cakes, zucchini bread, pumpkin chipper bread, broccoli potato soup, fajita mix, garlic heads, flat-leaf parsley, beet humus, basil pesto, zucchini bread, roasted poblano and Anaheim chiles, yellow pepper rings, grass-fed beef and local pork.

Holiday gift show Saturday at Strater

The 18th annual Artisans’ Holiday Gift Show & Sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Oak Room of the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

The show will feature an eclectic blend of handcrafted work by local artisans.

County commissioner to host office hours

La Plata County Commissioner Gwen Lachelt will hold office hours from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds in the Animas Room of the Extension Building, 2500 Main Ave.

People are invited to discuss issues of concern or interest and share their opinions on county issues.
