Animas Surgical Hospital is the third hospital in the world to use new technology to complete minimally invasive spinal surgery.
The 7D FLASH Navigation Percutaneous Spine Module allows surgeons to accurately and efficiently execute spine surgeries without making major incisions.
Dr. Ryan Martyn conducted a percutaneous spinal fusion using the new technology Oct. 21.
“The 7D technology provides me with more information when placing hardware in the spine, because I can see the anatomy in 3D,” Martyn said in a news release. “This gives more accuracy and confidence, especially when performing percutaneous cases, where you are working with tiny incisions and instruments below the skin.”
The speed, accuracy and efficiency of the machine-vision technology is intended to provide economic value and harness the potential of image-guided navigation in surgical procedures.
Because a major incision is not necessary, the recovery time is shorter and easier than with traditional open surgery methods.
