Natural Grocers offers free classes
If you’d like to learn how to make your own smoothies, health coach Tiffany Godwin will teach you how, at 6 p.m. Jan. 13, in Natural Grocers’ demonstration kitchen.
With the right ingredients, smoothies can be a healthy option for a midday snack or an even an on-the-go meal. Godwin will show you the four easy steps to creating a tasty and nutritionally balanced drink you can make at home.
To help the cold-challenged get through a Western Slope winter, Hana Renee will host a class at 11 a.m. Jan. 10 at the health food store. If you have seasonal allergies, are susceptible to the flu and feel cold all the time, Renee can advise you on the best foods to stay warm and the supplements to help keep you energized in the cold months.
Wake up to a new tea
Sometimes your plain ol’ cuppa just isn’t enough. The esteemed tea company Bigelow has just released a new line of tea bags that have the extra jolt you’re looking for.
American Breakfast – a take-off on the bracing English Breakfast – is made with 50 percent more caffeine than the maker’s usual offerings. It comes in original, lemon and honey flavors. Albertson’s carries it for $3 for a box of 20 tea bags.
Bread for the gluten-free
Can’t eat wheat and craving a decent piece of the staff of life? The Intolerant Italian, Durango’s own gluten-free pasta store in College Plaza, also makes its own bread.
The multigrain sandwich loaf is filled with protein-packed sunflower seeds, has a medium-weight texture and a taste with a hint of sweet molasses. It’s marvelous toasted with butter. If you’d like a softer, lighter version, the sandwich bread is as close to the real thing as you can get without making your own.
Indulging in a little cheese at cocktail hour? The Intolerant Italian makes a baguette to complete your appetizer plate.
The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.
