The Four Corners Alliance for Diversity invites you to don your best steampunk attire and step back in time to the 1920s for Steampunk Speakeasy & Casino Night, an evening of drinking, gambling, music and dancing at the Strater Hotel from 7 to 11 p.m. April 1.

With Prohibition in full swing, the exact location of the event will be revealed only to those who purchase a ticket. Ticket-holders will receive a message disclosing the location and a password needed to participate.

Those interested in attending are encouraged to buy tickets in advance.

“They will have to find the secret entrance on their own if they wait until the night of,” said Kristi Dean, board chairwoman for the Four Corners Alliance for Diversity. “They have to be a detective because it’s Prohibition and we can’t just let everyone know where to find the alcohol and gambling.”

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Four Corners Rainbow Youth Center in Durango. The center’s mission is to offer a safe, non-judgmental space for LGBT kids and their families.

Durango-based band Big Mama Donna will provide the entertainment for the evening. “They are creating some jazz-type music just for this event, which is really amazing,” Dean said. Attendees can also expect casino tables and refreshments. “The Strater Hotel is providing us with amazing appetizers. And of course, there will be a cash bar.”

Tickets are $54.24 and can be purchased online at http://bit.ly/2nMTIYU or at the door. Buy your tickets by March 27 and receive $5 off the price with the promo code “speakeasy.”

“Durango hasn’t had something steampunk since Snowdown a few years ago, so I thought, ‘It’s time for us to have a steampunk party,’” Dean said of the event’s theme. “A bunch of locals have the costumes and they need another place to wear them.”
