Simmons brothers named to USA road world teams

Quinn on elite road race roster; Colby on U23 team

COLORADO SPRINGS – The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships will make history in Glasgow, Scotland, as the first World Championship where 13 events will be contested across seven disciplines. From the USA, 32 athletes will compete in the road events Aug. 5-12, including Quinn Simmons and his younger brother Colby Simmons.

This event is one of the first automatic qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games for both the road race and the individual time trial.

USA Road Race National Champion, Durangoan Quinn Simmons of Lidl-Trek, is on the elite men’s roster and will be competing given his withdrawal from the Tour de France. Matteo Jorgenson (Idaho; Movistar Team), Neilson Powless (California; EF Education-EasyPost) and Lawson Craddock (Texas; Team BikeExchange-Jayco) will also be racing the Road Race fresh off their performances at the Tour de France.

Time Trial National Champion Brandon McNulty (Arizonal UAE Team Emirates) will be taking a crack at the rainbow stripes in the time trial world championships. Magnus Sheffield (New York; Ineos Grenadiers) will make his return after his crash in the Tour de Suisse. He has had several podiums in the World Tour this year and will also be vying for the World Title.

Elite women’s road race and time trial national champion Chloé Dygert (Indiana; CANYON/SRAM Racing) will be back at the Road World Championships competing in both events. Dygert has also been selected for the Track World Championships that will run during the same time in Glasgow.

Veronica Ewers (Idaho; EF Education-TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank) has had an impressive Women’s World Tour season so far and will be joined on the team by Dygert, EF Education-TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank teammate Lauren Stephens (Texas), Coryn Labecki (California; Team Jumbo-Visma), Megan Jastrab (California; Team DSM), Skylar Schneider (Wisconsin; L39ion of Los Angeles), and Heidi Franz (Washington; DNA Pro Cycling).

Colby Simmons (Jumbo-Visma Development Team) has been selected to race in the U23 men’s road race for Team USA. Owen Cole (North Carolina; Velocious Sport), Luke Lamperti (California; Trinity Racing), Brody McDonald (California; Aevolo Cycling) and Artem Shmidt (Georgia; Hagens Berman Axeon) will also compete with Colby in the road race.

Evan Boyle (New York) and Viggo Moore (Germany Israel Premier Tech) will represent the USA in the U23 men’s time trial.

The USA’s junior women’s team includes Makala Jaramillo (Colorado SonicBoom Racing), Ella Brenneman (Pennsylvania), Ella Sabo (California; Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY24 DEVO) and Samantha Scott (Idaho; CompEdge Racing).
