The Fort Lewis College men’s golf team completed the fall season at the Midwestern State Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas.
FLC finished last of 15 teams after a brutal third-and-final round Tuesday. FLC finished with a team score of 918, which was 66-over-par.
Trip Hobson of Midwestern State won the tournament with a three-round total of 209, which was 4-under on the par-71 course at Wichita Falls Country Club. Hobson finished one shot better than Regis’ Nicholas Tenuta.
Fort Lewis’ Matt Huntley tied for 38th at 10-over. Zane Sauer tied for 54th at 14-over, Austin Lienemann tied for 64th at 22-over, Tyler Blohm was 79th at 24-over, and Blake Kusava tied for 80th at 25-over. There were 84 golfers in the field.
FLC will take the winter off before getting back to competition in the spring.
The Fort Lewis College men’s and women’s basketball teams will host a free youth clinic Saturday as part of its season tip-off celebration.
The women will have an intersquad scrimmage at 8 a.m., followed by a men’s scrimmage at 9 a.m. inside Whalen Gymnasium on the FLC campus. Then, the teams will meet with young players from around the region for an all-skills-level camp. Girls in first through eighth grade are welcome to join along with boys in first through seventh grades.
The camp will begin at 10:30 a.m. and end at 11:45 a.m. There will be a meet-and-greet with coaches and players immediately after the camp.
Later in the afternoon, the teams will board the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train and depart for a tip-off celebration that is sold out.
The women will host Texas-Permian Basin at 11 a.m. Nov. 10 in its regular-season opener. The men’s basketball team will begin regular-season play Nov. 11 in Albuquerque against Eastern New Mexico.
Fort Lewis had match point against Adams State in the fourth set but couldn’t put the Grizzlies away Tuesday at Whalen Gymnasium.
Adams State (9-11, 5-6 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) went on to win the fourth set 33-31 in an epic battle. FLC led 24-23 in the set and had two chances to beat Adams State but couldn’t get it done in a five-set loss (20-25, 25-18, 23-25, 33-31, 15-9).
The Skyhawks (8-11, 3-8 RMAC) had five players record double-digit kills, led by Maddie LeBlanc’s 14. Mallory Grimsrud had a match-high 21 kills for Adams State. Rachel Ringler had 56 assists for the Grizzlies, and Kendra Swackenberg recorded 55 for FLC. Megan Graefe had a match-high 34 digs for FLC. Shannon Mulkey had nine blocks for Adams State, and Bailey Longacre led FLC with seven.
FLC will remain home to play Westminster at 5 p.m. Saturday.
