COLORADO SPRINGS — Residents of a southeastern Colorado town are cleaning up damage caused by tornadoes, strong winds and large hail.
The National Weather Service says an EF1 tornado, with winds of up to 100 mph, touched down Sunday north of the town of Walsh. Damage included downed trees and power lines, broken windows and damaged vehicles.
Baca County Sheriff David Campbell says the county sounded its tornado sirens and activated an automatic telephone call to residents warning them of possible tornadoes.
Meteorologist Tom Magnuson says two storms came together Sunday to produce the tornadoes and straight-line winds. Officials received reports of baseball-sized hail. He says three landspout tornadoes were reported down southwest of Walsh.
