Top picks of what to do this weekend in Durango

DOT comedy downtown

Sure, you can watch a comedy film this weekend, but for the same price, you can check out local funny people right here in Durango. Six of the eight members of Durango DOT Comedy will perform short- to long-form improv sketches in “Back in the Saddle,” the group’s first show since April 11, at Durango Arts Center Theatre. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the performance starts at 8 p.m. Admission is $10, and it’ll be tough to beat the cheap beer – Ska Brewing Co. pints will be $2.

Little Wilderness

Little Wilderness, an indie-rock band from Durango, started jamming about four years ago. Since then, they’ve created a repertoire of all-original tunes, and they’re currently working on a new album in lead singer Paul Henderson’s home studio.

If you enjoy ’90s alternative music or bands like The White Stripes, you’ll probably dig Little Wilderness. Check them out and enjoy some local spirits Friday at Mancos Valley Distillery, 116 N. Main St. in Mancos. Doors open at 5 p.m., and music starts at 8 p.m. The cover is $3. Listen to Little Wilderness at http://rvrb.fm/1Kx4FQx.

Live modeling

The White Dragon Tearoom usually is a place to kick back and enjoy relaxing, hot tea. But on Friday, it’s that and then some. Local model and former Fort Lewis College student Kuwa Jasiri will be there to model for painters, sketchers and artists of any medium. The clothed modeling session will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. in the main room of the tearoom at 820 Main Ave.
