Twin Buttes reopens all trails

Closure of Lower Lightner Creek Trail now lifted

Twin Buttes of Durango recently announced that all trails in the 12-mile Twin Buttes trail system are now open for public recreation.

Specifically, the lower Lightner Creek Trail reopened from the west trailhead on Lightner Creek Road (County Road 207) to the east trailhead, west of the Giant gas station, 20453 U.S. Highway 160. The trail had been closed for construction of the Historic Tram Park, which will be dedicated to the city of Durango.

The trail system is open to hiking, running, horseback riding and mountain biking. Trail users should be respectful, aware of their surroundings and uphold common trail practices, such as never scaring animals, keeping bicycles in control, yielding appropriately and planning ahead. Trails should not be used for 24 hours after the area has received major rainfall.
