The Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team was stunned 20 seconds into the match to give up a goal. But the Skyhawks slowly recovered in a meeting of unbeaten teams.
CSU-Pueblo’s Joe O’Sullivan fired a shot into the high right corner of the goal only 20 seconds into Sunday’s match at Dirks Field, and that gave the ThunderWolves a sudden 1-0 lead against the Skyhawks.
With time winding down in regulation, FLC’s Brantley Bice would connect on a pass from Loic Jean-Baptiste to score an equalizing goal that would send the match to overtime tied 1-1.
Both teams applied plenty of pressure through two overtimes, but neither side could get a shot through the strong goalkeepers.
Joseph Banul made seven saves for the ThunderWolves (4-0-1, 2-0-1 RMAC), while Peter Byrne tallied six for the Skyhawks.
FLC (2-0-1, 1-0-1 RMAC) will welcome a contest against nationally-ranked Colorado School of Mines at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Dirks Field. The Orediggers will enter unbeaten at 4-0 and 3-0 in RMAC play and fresh off a 6-0 win at home Sunday against Colorado Christian.
