Woman found dead from apparent gunshot wound near Pagosa Springs

Law enforcement has deemed case a homicide investigation

A 39-year-old woman was shot and killed early Tuesday near Pagosa Springs.

Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to an open line 911 call about 2:20 a.m. in the 1000 block of County Road 700, between Chimney Rock and Pagosa Springs, south of U.S. Highway 160.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound that appears to be the result of a homicide, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office has enlisted the help of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Law enforcement provided no suspect information as of Tuesday afternoon.

CBI spokesman Rob Low said the victim was found dead outside her home. CBI was processing the scene Tuesday afternoon.

“The working theory is that she was shot and had just enough strength to call 911 where she died,” Low said. “They’re looking through her history to see who she knew.”

He said law enforcement officials developed their theory based on the open line 911 call.

CBI said they would likely release the name of the victim on Wednesday.
