All welcome to first Native Traditional Games

Durango School District 9-R will host the first Native Traditional Games on Indigenous Peoples Day, starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Fanto Park, adjacent to Park Elementary School, 445 East Seventh Ave. The event is open to students, families and community members.

The district's Title VI Native American Education Program is sponsoring the event. Title VI Program Manager Orlando Griego, along with Native American cultural liaisons and other teachers, will introduce and explain the games.

The event offers students from the district’s 11 schools a chance to participate in Native American traditional games, including Double Ball, Ring the Stick, Rock in Fist and Arrow

Throw. Attendees should bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating and wear warm layers. Food and drinks will be provided.
