And the West is History

100 years ago: “While traveling in 1888 I had a severe attack of cholera morbus. Physicians said I was near death and would most likely not survive. They advised I telegraph my family. Instead, I paid $0.50 for a bottle of Chamberlain’s Colic and Cholera Remedy and was fine by the next morning.”

75 YEARS AGO: “Why gamble with guessoline? You know what you’re getting with Red Crown.”

50 YEARS AGO: “Glue-sniffing problem discussed at Cortez: Chief of Police Wayne Martin told of his experiences with dope addiction and its problems with juvenile delinquency. Boys make up the majority of cases, with the greatest number in the 12-14 age bracket. After sniffing, youngsters are capable of such feats of strength that would be unbelievable to themselves were they conscious to remember it.”

25 YEARS AGO: “Theft of an IBM self-correcting typewriter from the Durango Public Library was reported by the Durango Police Department. Value: $250.”
