100 years ago: “A team belonging to Evan Hampton of the Florida ran away from the front of the Clark feed store where it had been left standing. The team ran up 9th Street across Second Avenue where they stopped. The wagon pole was badly broken up and the horses were scratched.”

75 years ago: An advertisement for Durango Coca-Cola Bottling Co. read: “Pure, wholesome, delicious coca-cola is refreshment you want at home. Everybody likes its distinctive taste and the happy after-sense of complete refreshment that it gives. Your dealer has the handy home package – the 6-bottle carton.”

50 years ago: PURGATORY – “Well over 100 cheerful stockholders of the San Juan Development Co. and their wives arrived for their special preview of the new Purgatory ski area, which opens to the public Saturday morning. The occasion was Durango Ski Corporation’s way of saying thank you to the stockholders for their local investment in the new project.”

25 years ago: “Silverton, population 800, recently lost its school superintendent, who was also serving as a city councilman, to Operation Desert Shield. Spc. Dan Salfisberg left for the Fort Carson Army Post near Colorado Springs Nov. 25 with his National Guard unit, the 928th Medical Company.”
