And the West is History: Buggy at Main Avenue bridge – 1911
Friday, Mar 29, 2024 8:10 PM
This colorized photograph shows a group of men surveying the damage from the October 1911 flood along Main Avenue at the bridge north of 15th Street. Though not apparent here, the damage along Main at this stretch was severe. Luckily, this bridge was spared, but nearly a hundred others over the rivers in Southwest Colorado and northwest New Mexico were washed away. The houses in the background are across the Animas. They line West Park Avenue and still exist. Note the trolley tracks in the foreground. – Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum.org (Catalog Number: 05.11.22 from the La Plata County Historical Society Photo Collections)
