And the West is History: Downtown Billboard – 1910

This large advertising billboard sat at the open lot of 11th Street and Main Avenue in 1910. The subject matter was diverse. On the far right the fair being advertised was the 1910 Montezuma County Fair on Oct. 5, 6 and 7. The A.M. Anheier family owned the “Bill Poster” business in Durango. There were three Anheier brothers: Clyde, Carl and Arthur. Their father, Albert, who ran the advertising business, died in 1919 at the age of 56. Clyde lived to the age of 88, dying in 1980. Both are buried at Greenmount Cemetery. A picture taken at this same location today would show the parking lot of Durango Craft Spirits. – Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum.org (Catalog Number: 96.23.3 from the La Plata County Historical Society Photo Collections)
