August library events

Pine River Library

395 Bayfield Center Drive, Bayfield. Contact: 884-2222, www.prlibrary.org.

Pine River Library is taking a break from its weekly events for children and teens. It will be back after school starts with a new schedule of youth programming.

Weekly exercise programs for adults will continue. Check www.prlibrary.org/events for a full listing of our events.

Hopper’s Happy Readers Early Literacy Program Launch: School readiness isn’t just about being ready for the academics but also being prepared socially and emotionally. Happy Hopper’s Readers program supports and encourages caregivers to share 1,000 learning experiences before kindergarten, an undertaking that will help build their child’s school readiness toolkit.

This program highlights the five early literacy practices: read, talk, write, play and sing. These practices work together to help children understand how words sound, what letters look like and how words link to images or objects.

Children ages 0-5 can be signed up at the library. They will win prizes as they move through the learning stages. They will also receive a booklet that includes a list of suggested learning activities for each age group from birth to age 5.

For adults
Weekly Exercise Classes:
Yoga with Colleen

All you need is a yoga mat and a water bottle. Some yoga tools such as blocks, a blanket and a strap are encouraged. Cost is $10 for a single class, $45 for a five pass and $75 for a 10 pass. Checks can be made out to Bayfield Parks and Rec.

Mondays, 9-10 a.m.: Mostly Yin Yoga. Targets the connective tissue, which are the joints, bones and ligaments. We remain in many of the poses longer than in a traditional yoga class, which can be challenging for our body as well as our mind. The class may be slower paced, but it gives our mind time to quiet down, our breath to soften and our connective tissue to be stimulated. We will experience the balance between movement and stillness. Tools such as blocks and blankets are encouraged for this class. This class is accessible for all levels. We will experience the balance between movement and stillness.

Wednesdays, 8-9 a.m.: Yoga Flow. Yoga Flow lets us move dynamically from one posture to another. We create a meditative state with the flow and rhythm of our breath and the warming, lengthening and strengthening of our muscles in all the movements of our bodies.

Mountaintop Movement Classes

These classes are hosted by local fitness instructors Brian and Tammy Williams. Follow them on the Mountaintop Movement Facebook page for more information.

Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:15-9 a.m., HIIT Class. HIIT stands for High Intense Interval Training. This class consists of hard-charging intervals of training designed to increase your heart rate for a set period of time, followed by a rest to bring your heart rate back down. Each class will consist of a demonstration, warm-up and 10 to 12 stations where focus will be on a specific body group. We will rotate through three rounds with a short break between each round. The workout is followed by a cool down and stretch. All equipment will be provided. These HIITs will be outside, plan accordingly and bring your own water.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:15-9 a.m.: Full Body Fit Class. Use weight or light hand weights to work all body parts. The free classes are always similar in style but always different moves to keep it fun and fresh. You’ll need a yoga mat and light hand weights. If you don’t have them, there are extras that can be used. All ages and fitness levels are welcome.
