Durango Public Library hosts Round Dance 101

Durango Public Library will host Round Dance 101, in collaboration with the Durango School District 9-R Native American Education Program and the Native American Parental Advisory Committee, from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 2 at the library, 1900 East Third Ave.

This informative session will explore the significance of the Round Dance, providing insights into its historical and contemporary relevance within Native American cultures. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn the Round Dance steps and join the dance circle, fostering a sense of community and connection. The event includes special guest speaker Jessie Waskahat, a member of the Cree Nation from Frog Lake, Alberta, Canada. Refreshments will be provided.

After the workshop, everyone is invited to participate in the fourth annual Round Dance and Native American Art Market from noon to 11 p.m. Dec. 7 at Durango High School, 2390 Main Ave.
