I am ashamed to be an American

The America that swept fascism from the Pacific and Western Europe 80 years ago is no more. Trump has launched an assault of lies and demands against Ukraine including stripping the wealth of this devastated country while declining to issue any criticism of Putin’s fascist Russia.

Trump’s shocking public attacks of Zelensky will be normalized by right-wing media until it is a justified belief with their viewers. Trump, the “master negotiator,” has unnecessarily publicly ceded key negotiation points against Ukraine before talks have even begun, but has made no demands of fascist Russia, the aggressor. In fact, Trump is seeking economic ties with Russia.

Trump knew his cessation of assistance to Ukraine would result in more civilian deaths with escalating Russian attacks but did not care. If Ukraine objects to a peace agreement engineered by Trump and Russia, Trump will use this as a predicate to permanently end support and further assist Russia. Russia will then surge in Ukraine.

Putin’s troops have engaged in the worst war crimes, including mass murder, systematic torture and rape of civilians and prisoners and – like the Nazis – the kidnapping of children. Russia has been effectively beaten back with huge losses in the past three years and is running out of armored vehicles, but now America will come to the rescue of our new friend – the war criminal Putin.

Hopefully, the American-Russian efforts will be defeated by a strong European Union and Ukraine can survive in the future. I am ashamed to be an American.
