Rotary District Gov. Becky Smith will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango about her goals for Rotary in southern Colorado at 6 p.m. Tuesday on Zoom.
Smith is the leader of Rotary District 5470, which consists of 2,000 members spread over 52,000 square miles in 57 clubs.
Rotarians’ “service above self” motto includes their focus on volunteer community service and leadership projects. For Smith’s one-year term that began in July, an important priority is to help clubs re-engage and re-energize after their isolation during the pandemic period. She also wants to raise the awareness of Rotary Clubs in their communities. Smith also has a special project fundraiser to help Kenyan girls complete their education.
A Colorado native and Fort Lewis College graduate, Smith had been an educator in Southwest Colorado since 1989 before her retirement. That included teaching in Ignacio, sitting on the Bayfield Board of Education and working for the Colorado Board of Education.
Virtual visitors using Zoom are welcome.
