Damascus, Syria, is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. According to Bible prophecy, however, it is destined to become “a ruinous heap,” deserted, and uninhabitable (Isaiah 17). Could the chemical weapons stored in and under Damascus render it desolate?
Considering recent events, the stage is set for the fulfillment of this prophecy, along with Ezekiel 38, 39. Ezekiel’s prophecy describes an invasion on Israel by a coalition of countries, specifically Russia, Iran, and Turkey — from Syria! But God intervenes miraculously on Israel’s behalf. “Then all the world will know that I am God.”
About 25 percent of the Bible is prophetic, serving as a warning. The predicted judgments preceding Christ’s second coming are nearer than we think. “I am God. There is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning....” The world is not falling apart — it’s falling into place. Scriptures describe horrific events coming on earth like nothing man has ever seen or experienced. But Jesus promised he would return for those who believe in his name, “to keep them from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world.” “The Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.”
We don’t know the day, but we who are watching and searching his Word know the season. God will hold everyone responsible for discerning the times and the seasons. Dust off your Bible, seek him, and ask for understanding. Are you watching?
