“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” While the author of this often-quoted phrase has been debated (but was probably James Waterman Wise), Donald Trump created his very own version of the concept on his social media channel, posting a freakish, self-aggrandizing video casting himself as a messianic figure. The narration, equally unorthodox and surreal, claimed, “And on June 14, 1946, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, ‘I need a caretaker.’ So, God gave us Trump.”
My religious background taught the evil of “false prophets” as well as warnings of deep ego and excessive pride. This Trump post displays the epitome of those attributes, especially outrageous from a man who we know has cheated workers, been convicted of sexual assault, bragged about sexual transgressions, bankrupt his casinos, left students fleeced at his fraudulent school, paid political hush money to a porn star and then hid the payment from legally required reporting on his campaign and business records. Now this man is asking us to believe he was sent by God? Trump has truly passed into delusion and clinically serious narcissism.
Please, should you be considering voting for this sick man, think deeply about the consequences of voting for one who so flagrantly violates and thus mocks Christian values. Thank you.
