Vote country over party

Restore the Balance (RTB) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization focused on reducing the increasing partisan extremism in our political environment and restoring civil discourse to our elections and bipartisan cooperation in our government. We believe that our democracy depends on informed voter participation and candidate willingness to share their positions.

This year, we have conducted candidate evaluations for the General Election based on our Guiding Principles and four critical topics: Support of RTB Guiding Principles; Committed to Put Public Interest Ahead of Party; Qualified to Serve; and, Understanding of Issues Affecting Western Colorado. The Principles, Questions and complete Candidate Responses can be found on our website, https://www.restorethebalance.org/laplatabranch.

The La Plata County Branch Steering Committee – Republicans, Democrats and Unaffiliated – developed a questionnaire to measure the candidates’ positions on these four critical election topics. We reported on all races on the La Plata ballot. We are pleased to report that all of the La Plata candidates responded comprehensively to our questionnaire, as did both major candidates for CD3, and all responded with centrist positions, not revealing extremist or undemocratic leanings. We invite your to review our website and consider the candidates’ responses in deciding how to cast their votes.

Political extremism has fueled mistrust and divided families, friends and neighbors. In a democracy, we thrive on compromise. We encourage everyone to engage others with civility and respect and most importantly, vote your country over political party.
